Field coordinator Borno State at Médecins du Monde

About Médecins du Monde

For more than 40 years, Médecins du Monde (MdM), a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations here and abroad. It has continued to bear witness to obstacles that exist in accessing healthcare and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies.

Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

Our Work

MdM France currently works in 30 countries across all continents to facilitate access to healthcare through six political battles:

  • Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights
  • Migration, Exile, Human Rights and Health
  • Harm Reduction
  • Environment and Health
  • Humanitarian Space
  • Healthcare Systems and Rights

MdM in Nigeria

MdM has been implementing an emergency program in Borno State since 2016, in response to the humanitarian crisis in north-eastern Nigeria, focusing on:

  • Improving access to Primary Health Care (PHC)
  • Treatment of under-nutrition and support for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors
  • Providing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Mental Health and Psychological Support (MHPSS) services

In Borno, MdM operates:

  • 2 clinics in Damboa
  • Support for 2 Ministry of Health (MoH) clinics in Maiduguri
  • Support for 2 MoH clinics in Damboa

The implementation strategy is shifting from direct substitution to health system strengthening, integrating PHC, GBV, and MHPSS. A large advocacy component is being deployed at both the authority and community level. The team consists of approximately 120 staff.

The Borno office is supervised by the coordination office in Abuja, which also covers the Northwest of Nigeria where MdM began implementation in 2024.
