Introduction
This position is part of the Rural Access and Agriculture Marketing Project (RAAMP), Nigeria. The Senior Project Assistant will oversee Road Maintenance activities, Routine Maintenance, and Spot Improvements in the states.
This position is for 18 months, initially offered as a one-year contract, with renewal subject to performance.
Reporting Lines
Under the supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) in Abuja, the Senior Project Assistant will be responsible for Maintenance and Spot Improvement works in their assigned state.
Description of Duties
- Assist SPIUs in data collection, road condition surveys, and updating of rural roads inventory.
- Support SPIUs in pilot testing of innovative routine road maintenance models, including community contracting.
- Provide training for Road Maintenance Groups and contractors.
- Ensure Decent Work Elements are integrated into Maintenance and Operation Manuals.
- Assist in road maintenance planning, design, and contract preparation.
- Inspect construction sites for compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Prepare project reports and provide technical advice.
Education & Experience
- Education: Secondary education with formal training in a related field.
- Experience: At least 6 years in rural road rehabilitation/construction/maintenance.
- Experience in employment-intensive public works and the ILO's decent work agenda is an asset.
- Experience in community consultations and skills development is an advantage.
Languages
Excellent command of English and good knowledge of an official national language of the duty station.
Competencies
- Strong project management and evaluation skills.
- Ability to prepare technical publications and reports.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical tools.
