Job Title: Senior Specialist, Women and Youth

Location: Abuja, Nigeria, with travel to project states.

Project: Skilling Adolescents and Young Women for Entrepreneurship and Employability (SAY WEE)

Reports to: Program Manager

Program Overview

The SAY WEE project aims to address unemployment in Nigeria through self-employment, business acceleration, job readiness, and ecosystem development. The program targets 37,000 women and girls, with a strong accountability and safeguarding mechanism.

Job Summary

The Senior Specialist, Women and Youth will work closely with the project team, implementing partners, and key stakeholders to support activities that create economic opportunities for adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria. This role involves technical support, capacity development, monitoring, reporting, and ensuring safeguarding measures are in place.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Support

  • Develops and supports the implementation of women and youth-responsive activities.
  • Ensures safeguarding measures are integrated into program activities.
  • Builds local capacity for women and youth integration and economic empowerment.
  • Provides strategic advice on program activities and safeguarding policies.
  • Monitors and assesses adherence to safeguarding policies.

Training, Capacity Building, and Safeguarding Integration

  • Delivers training on safeguarding principles and youth-focused programs.
  • Supports the dissemination of safeguarding policies.
  • Builds capacity in community-based protection mechanisms.

Reporting, Accountability, and Compliance

  • Ensures safeguarding violations are reported and appropriate actions are taken.
  • Supports planning, budgeting, and implementation of safeguarding activities.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in International Development, Sociology, or related field with 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in accountability, safeguarding, or child protection.
  • Track record of supporting policy rollouts and organizational change.
  • Experience in training program delivery on women’s empowerment and safeguarding.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Nigeria with an INGO.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong belief in human rights and gender equality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing environments.
  • Proficiency in English and computer skills.
