Job Role: Nigeria Trade & Working Capital Client Solutions Lead

The primary objective of this position is to originate new and support the growth of Trade mandates across a portfolio of Nigeria-domiciled Conglomerates and Government-Related Entities. The role includes direct sales (of vanilla, structured, and commoditized Trade products) and managing and optimizing broader sales channels to support clients in Nigeria and their presence markets.

Citi Trade solutions help clients—both old and new economy—achieve strategic objectives such as sales growth, return on asset enhancement, risk mitigation, margins, and free cash flow. The role involves:

  • Developing deep client relationships across multiple pillars of organizations, including Treasury, Credit Controllership, Sales, Supply Chain & Procurement, Inventory, and Sustainability/Digitization.
  • Leveraging data to identify client objectives, pain points, and performance, ultimately producing a diagnosis and recommended courses of action.

This position will report to the SSA Head of Trade Sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Banking teams, cluster and Regional Trade teams, Global Solution Sales, and Relationship Management to ensure a cohesive origination model for Trade Solutions.
  • Create and execute client plans and strategy for Trade.
  • Establish client relationships and become a trusted advisor via a consultative sales approach.
  • Originate Trade opportunities for target clients in Nigeria and across the Citi network.
  • Provide solutions catering to both explicit and implicit needs.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and ideation to propose the best value-added solutions to Citi clients.
  • Bring the best of Citi to clients by leveraging an extensive internal network.
  • Develop an awareness of clients' ecosystems and environments to enhance client discussions.
  • Deliver trade budget through existing and new revenue streams, including complex and unique deals.
  • Efficiently manage Risk-Weighted Assets (RWA) and Return on Tangible Common Equity (ROTCE) at both client and deal levels.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Significant experience in persuading, negotiating, and communicating with external stakeholders.
  • Proven business development experience, including building and maintaining a sales pipeline.
  • Expertise in Credit & a diverse range of Trade Products, including Commodity Financing, Accounts Receivable Financing, and Export Credit Agency-backed structures.
  • Experience in structuring complex Trades across both Open Account and Documentary Trade for clients.
  • Proven ability to deliver and execute mandates through global matrix teams.
  • Experience in developing marketing strategies to promote banking products.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the legal aspects related to trade instruments.

Skills

  • Relevant experience working in Nigeria is mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Accounting background with strong analytical aptitude.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations, market practices, and bank operations.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills.
  • A minimum of a first degree in any discipline plus a relevant higher degree or professional qualification.
  • Minimum of 15 years post-graduation experience, with at least 12 years in the banking industry and at least 2 years at the Deputy General Manager level.
  • Experience in at least three (3) major areas of banking operations.
  • A master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English.
