Your Job Description

Job Duties

  • Under general supervision, provides on-site supervision of the Directional Drilling (DD) process, including projection of the well path to predetermined target coordinates.
  • Understands the principles of Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) selection and DD performance, ensuring assemblies are completed as planned with correct make-up torque, doping, and handling.
  • Is proficient in the use of DD computer software and assists in providing advice and analysis to the client representative at the well site.
  • Performs all required survey calculations and well path projections.
  • Updates well profile plots and provides accurate directional survey data to the client representative.
  • Is aware of client requirements regarding surveying procedures.
  • Assists in completing daily DD reports, BHA performance reports for each run, service tickets, and all relevant documentation, including well data spreadsheets, lessons learned or best practices, End of Job Customer Surveys (EJCS), and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) forms.
  • Is familiar with the DD components of the client’s approved drilling program.
  • Assists in the inspection of all DD equipment delivered to the work site.
  • Interfaces with the MWD engineer to ensure BHA compatibility, operating parameters are within specification, and correct toolface references are applied.
  • Maintains records of all DD equipment at the well site, including dimensional data and equipment condition.
  • Ensures all equipment is laid out after use according to company procedures and properly manifested for backload at the end of the job.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Requires completion of a high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of three years of field experience in Directional Drilling, L/MWD, or SDL, including at least six months in DD; a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline is preferred.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret designed well plans, directional survey information, and other well site data.
  • Demonstrates the required level of technical aptitude.
  • Possesses strong communication, arithmetic, data entry, and record-keeping skills, as well as relevant rig safety certifications; this is a field-based position.
